Delicious Smoothie Recipes

Smoothies are a simple way to cram a little more fruit and veg into your diet. They can be as healthy (or unhealthy) as you like and you can really use almost anything you can shove in a blender. But to get you started here are four simple recipes to kick off your MOB and start your day energised and hangover free!

Healthy-ish Chocolate Smoothie

The almond milk adds creaminess and the dates sweetness to this chocolate smoothie. The oats swell up to thicken the texture making it taste surprisingly luxurious. 

1 tablespoon of cocoa powder

1 frozen banana

2 dates

150ml of almond milk

3 tbsp oats

1 vanilla pod

150ml water

 

Green smoothie

This fresh tasting green smoothie will give you the burst of energy you need to get you through the day. You can always add some apple juice or honey for extra sweetness. You can also add or substitute ingredients for any of these recipes.

50g baby spinach

50g kale

250ml strong brewed green tea

1 small cucumber, chopped

2 ripe kiwis, peeled

6 ice cubes

1 sweet apple

Dash of lime juice

2cm piece ginger

 

Fruit

This is a great way to sneak some extra veg into your diet, the dayglow orange colour stops it looking too healthy. If you have a good blender you could try adding celery to the mix. Tumeric is supposed to have all sorts of health benefits and some of them might even be true it has been shown to have some effect on pain from osteoarthritis because it is an anti-inflammatory.

1 orange, peeled and roughly chopped

1 large carrot, peeled and roughly chopped

200ml coconut water

1 tsp turmeric

200g frozen mango

1 lime

 

Berry

Frozen berries are far more economical than fresh and make for an icy refreshing smoothie. They also blend to a more appetising colour than spinach!

150gms mixed frozen berries

1 large celery stalk

1 cucumber

1 apple

1 pear

1 handful of spinach

1 tsp honey
