MOB Essentials

The MOB is also called a Sober Sprint – this is because originally the programme was called the MOB – Month Off Booze, but then we renamed it the Sober Sprint. So you will see both names, especially on this website we mostly use MOB – hope it’s not too confusing!

The Sober Sprint consists of daily emails and blogs, videos and conversation with others on our private Facebook group (you will need to request to join).

But most importantly you are supported all the way by Club Soda. So if you have any questions or worries we are here. You can email Laura, Jussi or Helen if you have any questions, and if necessary we will arrange a phone or Skype call with you.

Daily emails

The daily emails will be a short guide to the daily content we have on this website. So you can take a quick peek, and click through to more information here. Even if you miss a day it’s ok. Every day’s information will stay posted here.

We will be building a list of FAQs based upon the questions that you ask us. You can ask your own questions by emailing us, or in the Facebook community; and the answers will be incorporated into the FAQ.

Updating your progress

There are two opportunities for you to update and track your progress.

For everyone on the Sober Sprint, Monday is the weekly Club Soda check-in and reflection day. It’s good to take time out to think about your overall progress. And it doesn’t have to be complicated – just ask yourself: “How am I doing?” We’ll remind you every Monday, but you could take the time to think about this any day of the week. Just make sure you do it regularly.

As a special MOB feature we have another check-in too. Every week you will have a chance to reflect a bit deeper into ten different aspects of your life. We’ll send you a link to a downloadable tracker to fill in, and give you an opportunity to rate how you are feeling about different aspects of your life. It will help track the subtle changes your month off will make.

There is more detail available on the check-in page.

Not getting your emails?

If you’re not receiving your daily emails, or if you have any problems with this website, let us know as soon as you can by emailing

Do you get the shakes if you don’t have a drink in the morning?

If you are concerned that you might be physically dependent on alcohol, do not stop drinking, but do email outlining your concerns. Helen will respond within 48 hours. If it is not possible to answer your questions by email, a Skype call will be booked, based upon her available slots. Helen is here to help and advise you – she is a chartered psychologist, and abides by a strict code of conduct, which includes protecting your confidentiality. So your conversation will be completely private.

You can also talk to your doctor and you can see our advice about doing that here.

Who are we?

The Sober Sprint has been developed by Helen O’Connor, a psychologist with experience and training in areas such as health behaviour change, psychology, and addiction, and Laura and Jussi from Club Soda, who all have personal experience of changing their drinking – which is why they set up Club Soda. You can read more about all of us here.

The information provided by Club Soda does not replace individual medical advice. Depending on your previous level of alcohol consumption, the physical consequences of stopping abruptly can be very serious.

If you or someone you know needs more immediate support or treatment to reduce your alcohol intake, please contact your doctor or a healthcare professional. Club Soda is not a replacement for one-on-one professional therapy, or any other type of traditional alcohol addiction support/therapy. It is an additional support resource that may complement your other endeavours to reduce your consumption of alcohol. If you have any concerns about your drinking, please consult your doctor. You might also like to consider Drinkaware, Alcohol Concern or the NHS website or call Drinkline, all of whom can direct you to local services 0300 123 1110
